Transformation Tuesday... My Story

If you've only met me in the past few years, you've watched my obsession with my weight, and possibly thought, although she has had periods where has a little heavier, she doesn't really know what it's like to truly be obese.  There are very few pictures of my from my pre-teen and teen years out there - and often when I'm tagged, I un-tag myself because I'm embarrassed of what I looked like years before.  So for those of you who have my as your Beachbody coach, and wonder if I really know what it's like to have to lose a large amount of weight - let me tell you, the answer is astoundingly YES!.  These two pictures of me were taken about 10 years apart.  The picture on the left shows me after I had dropped a good 15 or so pounds to squeeze into that size 18 dress.  On the right, I'm rocking a pair of size 6 pants!

See, I've been on every healthy (and unhealthy) "diet" plan that there is out there.  I can probably recite the rules to most of them to you still to this very day.  From the Cabbage Soup Diet, to South Beach, to 6 Week, to Atkins... I've done it all, and that's just in the "healthy" range.  My obsession for perfection (along with some other factors) lead me to a battle with bulimia I wouldn't wish I my worst enemy, and bouts of depression I've dealt with in my past (both postpartum and non) left me in moments where my hatred towards myself and my body got to absurd levels.

But I have to tell you, it's once you learn to stop "obsessing" about the number on the scale, and start focusing on getting HEALTHY that the real work can begin.  If you are hungry, EAT.  Just choose wisely.  Hunger is your body telling you that it needs fuel, but it's not telling you that you need cupcakes.  Exercise is a great for your health - endorphins help boost your mood, and helps keep your heart healthy.  But if your filling your body with junk it doesn't really mean anything.

If you're looking for someone to help get you to the place of being "stick thin" then I'm sorry, but I am not the coach for you.  Unless that is your body's natural body type and your body has an incredibly low set weight point you're going to be fighting an intensely difficult battle all your life to stay there.  BUT, if you're looking for someone to help you become your best self, healthy, strong, and happy - then I'm your gal.  Strong is the NEW Skinny."

To sign up to have me as your coach click on the Free Membership HERE.  Or message me on Facebook HERE and I'll help you move forward on your Health Journey!
And if your ready to take that first step - I'll be starting my NEXT Challenge Group on November 25th.  This will be a virtual Facebook Group (a secret group where nobody but participants can see) where we will talk daily about our workouts, food choices, and general ups and downs in our day to day lives as we tackle Shaun T's Focus T25.  Time is not an excuse in this workout - everyone can find 25 minutes to workout!

Can Exercise Stop Aging?

Can exercise stop aging?

Certainly not! But it can surely slow down the process.
The clock ticks for all men, and with each tick comes change. For men who manage to avoid major medical problems, the changes are slow and gradual, but they do add up. Here are some things that aging can do to you — if you give up and let Father Time take his toll.

Clock never stops. It ticks for everyone and with each tick it brings physical changes to everyone. Those, who somehow manage to avoid medical problems, also become victim of time.
The effects of time start appearing physically in middle age. High blood pressure and stiffening of blood vessels are its early signs. Blood itself starts changing. At times it becomes thick and sticks. Hence it becomes tough for the heart to pump the blood.  Number of RBC (red blood cells) also declines. Hence amount of oxygen carried for cells also reduces. Situation continues becoming the worst with every tick of time.

Regular exercise can do miracle in stopping this process of aging.  Studies have shown that exercise provide security to telomeres—the DNA that protects the body from the effects of time. This way exercise fixes biological clock and slows down the aging process.

Physicians advise to do physical work and regular exercise to stay young for a long period of time. Everyday exercise is the only tool that can successfully fight the ‘tick tick’ of time.

Create Some Positive Self Talk!

Positive Self Talk: Learn How to Create a Positive Image of Yourself

Our actions depict our thoughts and our thoughts depict the way we interpret our self. How do we interpret our self? We talk to ourselves almost all the time and it is actually we who tell ourselves if the world around us is beautiful or if the things around us are ugly. It is we who tell us to see negativity in every matter and it is also we who sow seed of hope in ourselves.
Let’s see how we can develop a positive image of ourselves in front of us.

First - kill the negative chatter which lives inside you. Do not hear him.
Second - develop a habit of affirming positive thoughts. Say a big YES to each positive thought. Third - whenever possible narrate positive stories to yourself in detail. Repeat the stories and try to internalize the narrated dreams and goals.
Forth - replace every person and every object that may cause negative influence on your thinking pattern with someone and something pleasing and positive.
Fifth; -try to avoid the company of de-motivating and uninspiring people. Such people may cause you to engage in negative chat.
Sixth - make yourself to talk about present. Forget past and don’t think of future. Try to live in present.
Seventh - don’t fear of your fears. Try to confront them. Believe; worst case scenarios are never as bad as we think of them.
Eighth - remember life is a combination of disturbing and enjoyable moments. Talk more about enjoyable moments. Forget disturbing moments.
Ninth - develop a habit of gratitude. It can does wonders to your mental state.

In short replace every negative thought with a positive thought. Talk to yourself in positive way and don’t listen to your negative chatter.

Book Review - Postnatal Fitness for a New Mom

Recently I received a Facebook message from author Mara Kimowitz, author of Lil' Bootie Guide: Postnatal Fitness for a New Mom.  She asked me if I'd be willing to take a look at her book and give her some feedback on it.  Being a literary nerd, as well as a fitness junkie, how could I refuse?  (Although I did convince her that when she sent me a copy, that she should sign it first...).

I have to say, this is an amazing book for a mom who just gave birth.  Not only does it give a realistic approach to trying to regain your body back - but it stresses the fact that it takes time to get our "pre-baby" bodies back.  After all, didn't we just have another human growing inside of us for 9+ months?

The quote she starts with really draws you in, "The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before.  The woman existed, but the mother, never.  A mother is something absolutely new."  ~Rajneesh

I don't know about you, but nobody told me of the "bad mommy moments" that take place.  Those confusing moments where you wish you could take your life back but can't imagine your life without your little darlings (or minions in my case) at the same time.  The feelings of guilt for wanting time just for yourself in a society that still looks at that as something taboo!  I'll be the first to admit it - I NEED Kimmie time.  I'm not doing anything crazy at the time - it's not clubs and partying for me.  Rather, I need that time to workout, for me that's how I decompress and refocus on the day.  Without that time for myself, I can't parent the way I know I can.  And she points out something in the opening of her book that is important and so often forgotten - children mimic what they see us do.  If they see us always sitting on the couch, watching TV - well that's what they are going to want to do... and if we eat healthy and exercise they'll want to do that too!  Want proof?  My boys do parts of my morning workout with me everyday!

The book then goes on with 4 levels of exercises to help you start to get your body back into shape in a gentle way for the brand new Momma, complete with cute stick figure illustrations and a chunk of pages in the back to track your progress!

Overall, I think this is a great book for the brand new momma, not ready for an intense workout, but ready to get the ball rolling for the sake of her health, and in return her child's as well!

The Ultimate Reset Complete... Results are Here!

So I've officially completely the 21 Day Ultimate Reset!  Yay to me!  (Although, I did cheat one night and cave on the fro-yo.)  I have to say, overall I was pretty pleased with most of the meals, though there were one or two I hope to never see again (until my next Reset).  Sure, there were times that I was hungry, but it was nowhere near the horrible hunger that I've felt on some of the other detoxes or cleanses I have tried.

After 21 days, thanks to The Ultimate Reset I have have had a complete body "makeover" - however although I am seeing results on the outside (I'll get to those in a minute) it's the ones on the inside that have really thrilled me.

I have an increased amount of energy.  In the beginning it was difficult and I did feel a little bit more tired then I had, but as the first week progressed I noticed my energy increase.  And now I'm feeling full of it on a daily basis.

I am sleeping through the night.  On average I am getting 7-8 hours of SOLID sleep!  This is compared to the 4ish hours I'd be able to get throughout the night prior to this.  I used to wake up multiple times during the night - now I'm only waking up if one of the minions wakes up calling for me or my husband.

My system is more regulated.  Without getting too graphic let's just say that I'm hitting the bathroom twice a day, and you could actually set a clock on the times that I have to go!  That's really different from the "maybe" once a day and issues I had prior.

Now for the information everyone has been weighting for - go ahead, ask... How much weight did I lose?  Well I'll tell you.  In the 21 days, I lost a whopping 13 pounds!  And that's with my "monthly friend" making an appearance this morning - ugh!  And here's the visual too with a reminder of my before and an after side by side.

So what now?  Well for the next 21 days I'm going to slowly start reintroducing more grains into my diet.  I'm still on the fence about meat.  Honestly I didn't miss it during this Reset, so I haven't decided if it's something that I'm going to regularly eat or not.  I may just stick to fish on occasion.  I guess we'll see what happens there.  I also will still be using the Vegan Shakeology for the next few weeks - they say to stay with that form for another 21 days.  Then I will be switching back to my regular chocolate flavor.

Until Next Time...

Join the Challenge

What would you do for your health?  Would you be willing to dedicate yourself for 21 days to help eliminate that tired, clogged, or bloated feeling?  To detoxifying your body in a way that will eliminate your dependency of sugar, caffeine, and/or alcohol?  Would you be willing to flush toxins out of your system as well as heavy metals from your vital organs and rejuvenate your digestive tract in the process?  Would you spend 21 days establishing new healthy habits of sound nutrition and hydration?

The Beachbody Ultimate Reset is NOT a starvation plan, an abrupt cleanse, or a laxative-focused program.  It includes real foods along with supplements that will help get your body back on track in ways you never thought were possible!

Benefits include...
  • reclaiming your body's natural balance
  • releasing harmful materials you may be storing within your body
  • restore you system back to its maximum health
  • flush toxins from your organs
  • lower your cholesterol
  • improve your digestion
  • increase your energy
  • have a more positive mood
  • have better focus

Better yet, you will not only be getting the support of the Participant Portal by I will be hosting a Challenge Group through Mom's Fitness Time on Facebook.  You can use this program (along with me) in my "Any Beachbody Workout" Challenge group starting on September 16th.  Although this is not a workout, it's a very helpful program to use in your health and wellness.

Welcome to My Life...

There comes a time in everyone's life when they decide it's time to make some major decisions in his or her life.  For me, I've come to a point where I've decided I want to start sharing my knowledge about getting healthy and fit (not necessarily "skinny" but healthy) with those who are interested in learning from me and my life.

Why should you listen to me?  Well honestly, I can't promise you a quick fix - but I can promise you that you'll learn more and have a better understanding of REAL solutions, not quick fixes like crash diets, diet pills, or worse.  I've dealt with my weight fluctuating in huge swings both up and down.  I was a big kid and later obese through my teenage years (weighing more then 230 pounds at age 18).
I later wound up developing an eating disorder that I suffered with for more then 10 years before getting the help that I needed to get myself healthy and in check.  After getting myself into a good place in my recovery from Bulimia, I was even featured on the Tiger Schulmann's Martial Arts Website to talk about how I've gotten myself together.

I'm also a real person.  I am a 31 year old married woman.  I have two wonderful (though incredibly loud and energetic) boys ages 5 & 6.  I am also a co-director at a preschool.  I am lucky that my husband is willing to be with the boys in the evenings so that I can train in MMA most evenings.  However, in order to workout at any other time in the day I've had to learn to be creative.  I wake up at 5 am in order to get my run in before my family is even awake for the day.  Then any workout programs I'm doing during the day (right now I'm using the Beachbody T25 program) is done in the house while the children are engaged in other activities around the house - often a craft I've set up for them, or "reading time" or something of the like.

As a result of my dedication and desire to be happier with what I see in the mirror I've been able to really get myself in better shape.  In less then four months I've been able to perform the following transformation (of course I've been a big fan of the tanning bed obviously as well...).

And so I hope you will follow me on my journey - and share yours as well.  I look forward to all the wonderful adventures that are about to come my way, and yours.

Until Next Time...
