Why is it Important to Stay Fit Anyway?

There are number of reasons that force you to think about your fitness. On one hand doctors advise fitness, on the other hand society demands fitness. Today fitness has been set as a standard of beauty. You are fit, you are beautiful and attracting. Society accepts only fit people. Fitness not only labels you as beautiful but also benefits you in many other ways. The benefits have been largely categorized into two groups: one, medical importance of fitness; second, psychological importance of fitness. For fitness, both of these categories are of equal importance. Let’s elaborate aforementioned categories of fitness in detail.

Medical Importance of Fitness:
Proponents of fitness say that fitness helps in keeping a man medically sound. It reduces cholesterol level, blood pressure, back pain, risks of injury, risk of heart injury and aches and pains. Moreover it prevents certain cancers, hidden fats and Alzheimer’s. Furthermore it increases metabolic rates, range of motion, functional strength, insulin sensitivity, balance and coordination, weight control, fat utilization, immune system, strength of bones. In short it is right to say that fitness prolongs life.
Psychological Importance of Fitness:
Proponents of fitness claim that fitness helps in keeping a person emotionally sound.  Fitness gives confidence. Better shape automatically improves confidence. It helps you to reach the best of your potential. Moreover it improves self esteem. Fitness not only reduces anxiety and depression but it also helps in improving focus. Notwithstanding the added benefit of fitness for improving sex drive.

That's the beauty of the Beachbody workout programs.  These programs are even better to help you achieve health fitness when combined in a Challenge Pack of a fitness program and Shakeology.  And it can all be done within the privacy of your own home!!!

Can Exercise Stop Aging?

Can exercise stop aging?

Certainly not! But it can surely slow down the process.
The clock ticks for all men, and with each tick comes change. For men who manage to avoid major medical problems, the changes are slow and gradual, but they do add up. Here are some things that aging can do to you — if you give up and let Father Time take his toll.

Clock never stops. It ticks for everyone and with each tick it brings physical changes to everyone. Those, who somehow manage to avoid medical problems, also become victim of time.
The effects of time start appearing physically in middle age. High blood pressure and stiffening of blood vessels are its early signs. Blood itself starts changing. At times it becomes thick and sticks. Hence it becomes tough for the heart to pump the blood.  Number of RBC (red blood cells) also declines. Hence amount of oxygen carried for cells also reduces. Situation continues becoming the worst with every tick of time.

Regular exercise can do miracle in stopping this process of aging.  Studies have shown that exercise provide security to telomeres—the DNA that protects the body from the effects of time. This way exercise fixes biological clock and slows down the aging process.

Physicians advise to do physical work and regular exercise to stay young for a long period of time. Everyday exercise is the only tool that can successfully fight the ‘tick tick’ of time.

2 tbsp. dark brown sugar

2 tsp vanilla
1/2 c fat free Greek yogurt

Directions...
Whisk together the flour, oats, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.  Set aside.
In another bowl, stir together the applesauce and the peanut butter.
Mix in the honey, sugar, egg, and vanilla, and then stir in the yogurt.
Slowly add in the dry ingredients to the wet ones.
Drop into 12 lined and greased muffin tin spots.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Allow to completely cool.
Store in an air tight container!

Create Some Positive Self Talk!

Positive Self Talk: Learn How to Create a Positive Image of Yourself

Our actions depict our thoughts and our thoughts depict the way we interpret our self. How do we interpret our self? We talk to ourselves almost all the time and it is actually we who tell ourselves if the world around us is beautiful or if the things around us are ugly. It is we who tell us to see negativity in every matter and it is also we who sow seed of hope in ourselves.
Let’s see how we can develop a positive image of ourselves in front of us.

First - kill the negative chatter which lives inside you. Do not hear him.
Second - develop a habit of affirming positive thoughts. Say a big YES to each positive thought. Third - whenever possible narrate positive stories to yourself in detail. Repeat the stories and try to internalize the narrated dreams and goals.
Forth - replace every person and every object that may cause negative influence on your thinking pattern with someone and something pleasing and positive.
Fifth; -try to avoid the company of de-motivating and uninspiring people. Such people may cause you to engage in negative chat.
Sixth - make yourself to talk about present. Forget past and don’t think of future. Try to live in present.
Seventh - don’t fear of your fears. Try to confront them. Believe; worst case scenarios are never as bad as we think of them.
Eighth - remember life is a combination of disturbing and enjoyable moments. Talk more about enjoyable moments. Forget disturbing moments.
Ninth - develop a habit of gratitude. It can does wonders to your mental state.

In short replace every negative thought with a positive thought. Talk to yourself in positive way and don’t listen to your negative chatter.

Pumpkin Flavored Yumminess!

What a wonderful autumn Friday!  The leaves are changing colors, pumpkin picking and hayrides seem to be the topic of conversation, and all the wonderful autumn flavors and aromas are filling the air.  Which leads me to my one issue with this time of the year, my love of all those fall foods.  Pumpkin and apple flavored everything - from pies to fancy coffee drinks - it's a flavor bonanza!

I was really in the mood for something pumpkin yesterday, like seriously couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted pumpkin.  And so I started adding some pumpkin to my Shake-O after finding this wonderful recipe I'm sharing with you today.  This was delish and a total must try!  Talk about thick and filling!

But that wasn't enough for me.  I wanted more (so what else is new).  So I went on the hunt for a pumpkin soufflĂ© that wasn't awful for me, and at 86 calories for one, you might agree!

Ingredients:
2 egg whites
tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
packet of splenda
1/2 cup pumpkin puree

Directions:
Mix first 4 ingredients together until frothy.
Fold in pumpkin puree
Spray a mug with PAM and pour in mixture
Microwave for 3 minutes or until slightly firm.
Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy these two little yummy treats!  I know I sure do!

Tropical Shakeology Power Balls

Everyone knows that I'm a HUGE fan of Shakeology!  I love the fact that I get so many of the vitamins, minerals, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, and so many other healthy nutrients that help our bodies run like a well oiled machine.  And I know I've said it before, but it's helped me almost completely eliminate caffeine from my diet!  No longer do I drink 3 Monster Rehabs on top of multiple cups of coffee every day.  Nope, they're no longer needed.

But I know there are people out there who aren't a fan of shakes.  And as much as I can't imagine not having a shake somewhere in my day, if your not a shake person, that's your call.  But did you know there are other ways to incorporate Shakeology into your diet?  Today, I thought I'd share with you a Tropical Shakeology Power Ball recipe that I came across the other day - and I seriously LOVE it... and my boys do too... they actually ate 2 a piece as soon as they saw them.  (They knew what they were since I had recently purchased them something similar at a local health food store, which is what made me think that there was probably a recipe out there for something similar!)

This is a very easy, no bake recipe!  And I can tell you, I had 2 of these for breakfast this morning and they kept me full (and because of the peanut butter) very satisfied for several hours!

You take all the ingredients listed in the picture that I've posted and mix them together in a large bowl.  Then, roll the ingredients into golf ball sized balls until you have 14 of them.

Stick them into the freezer, and keep them there until you are ready to eat them!

So easy, and so good!

I'm going to continue to test out some non-shake Shakeology recipes and I'll continue to give you the lowdown!

And don't forget, my next "Nutrition with Shakeology" Challenge group will be starting up on the 21st.  I only have a few spots left - if your interested make sure you contact me at Kimmie0270@gmail.com!

Book Review - Postnatal Fitness for a New Mom

Recently I received a Facebook message from author Mara Kimowitz, author of Lil' Bootie Guide: Postnatal Fitness for a New Mom.  She asked me if I'd be willing to take a look at her book and give her some feedback on it.  Being a literary nerd, as well as a fitness junkie, how could I refuse?  (Although I did convince her that when she sent me a copy, that she should sign it first...).

I have to say, this is an amazing book for a mom who just gave birth.  Not only does it give a realistic approach to trying to regain your body back - but it stresses the fact that it takes time to get our "pre-baby" bodies back.  After all, didn't we just have another human growing inside of us for 9+ months?

The quote she starts with really draws you in, "The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before.  The woman existed, but the mother, never.  A mother is something absolutely new."  ~Rajneesh

I don't know about you, but nobody told me of the "bad mommy moments" that take place.  Those confusing moments where you wish you could take your life back but can't imagine your life without your little darlings (or minions in my case) at the same time.  The feelings of guilt for wanting time just for yourself in a society that still looks at that as something taboo!  I'll be the first to admit it - I NEED Kimmie time.  I'm not doing anything crazy at the time - it's not clubs and partying for me.  Rather, I need that time to workout, for me that's how I decompress and refocus on the day.  Without that time for myself, I can't parent the way I know I can.  And she points out something in the opening of her book that is important and so often forgotten - children mimic what they see us do.  If they see us always sitting on the couch, watching TV - well that's what they are going to want to do... and if we eat healthy and exercise they'll want to do that too!  Want proof?  My boys do parts of my morning workout with me everyday!

The book then goes on with 4 levels of exercises to help you start to get your body back into shape in a gentle way for the brand new Momma, complete with cute stick figure illustrations and a chunk of pages in the back to track your progress!

Overall, I think this is a great book for the brand new momma, not ready for an intense workout, but ready to get the ball rolling for the sake of her health, and in return her child's as well!

Noodles...

Okay so for some reason I had a serious craving for pasta.  But pasta isn't exactly on my meal plan and I was sorta at a loss - especially because I'm still not really eating any meat.  HOWEVER, while I was looking at the vegetarian versions of "meat" at the supermarket last night I came across Pasta Zero Plus by Nasoya and figured for 15 calories in 2/3 of a cup (or 30 calories for the whole bag) what the heck.

Now I'm not going to lie, the noodles had a slightly odd smell when I was rinsing them off before cooking them up in a pan, but I still wanted to give them a go.  And so, now presenting:

Kim's Noodle and Veggie Creation...

Ingredients:
Bag (1 1/3 c) Pasta Zero Plus Spaghetti
1/2 tomato chopped
1 tbsp. pumpkin seeds
1/2 avocado - cut up into cubes

Directions:
Drain and rinse noodles
Throw into a pan (sprayed with PAM)
Cook up until the appearance of being slightly "crispy"
Add in pumpkin seeds and tomato
Take off heat and let sit for a few minutes
Add in avocado

I'm not going to say it was the best meal I've ever eaten - but it did satisfy my need for noodles.  BUT, next time I'mna make some kinda sauce outta my tomatoes to really give it the pasta feel!

Healthy, Yummy, Pumpkin Cake!

It's Pumpkin Season... Pumpkin coffee, fraps, pie muffins, donuts, cakes, etc. But let's be real, they're not exactly good for you.  That doesn't mean I don't start craving it the minute the leaves start changing colors.  So when I stumbled across this recipe at one of my minion's cooking classes I figured, why not give it a try.  And I am IN LOVE with it!  It's moist and delicious!

This Pumpkin Cake recipe has eliminated the eggs and oil making it a wonderful breakfast treat or healthier dessert option.

Pumpkin Loaf Cake

 Ingredients:
1 package yellow cake mix (look for one without hydrogenated oils)
1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
dark chocolate chips as desired (for both in cake and on top)
Directions:
Prehead oven to 350 degrees.
Spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray.
In a large mixing bowl combine all ingredients until smooth.
Pour mixture into loaf pan.
Sprinkle top with additional dark chocolate chips.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Go Ahead, bake it!  You'll want to thank me for this one, I'm sure!

Until Next Time...
